Commissioning an Artwork 

I am always happy to consider requests for custom artwork of building construction and architecture.

I typically take on a small number of new commission projects each year.

Projects have ranged from one-off paintings of a skyscraper or residence,

to series of artworks documenting the construction or renovation of a particular building over many months.

I prefer to see the subject personally, doing my own visual research on site, but I am able to work from your photographs.

After we discuss the subject, elements to be included, and format of the artwork you want,

I will prepare a letter of agreement detailing the scope of the commission.

Once this has been executed, I will create compositional sketches for your comments.

Upon your approval of the final sketches, I start the finished paintings.

Payments are in two parts: half on signing of the agreement, and the balance at completion of the artwork. 

For large oil paintings, the payments can be divided into three.

The price of unframed custom artwork depends on size and technique.

While I can't give an exact price for a painting before knowing more about the project, 

the following can be used as a guide for pricing custom unframed work:

Watercolors: small (11" x 15") $2,200; medium (18" x 24") $3,500; large (20" x 30") $4,500.

Oils: Small (18" x 24") $5,000; medium (24" x 36") $7,000; medium large ("36 x 48") $9,000;

large ("48" x 50") $14,000.

Other sizes are available in watercolor, oil or acrylic. 

Sales tax and shipping are additional.

I am especially interested in documenting process and progress on construction sites 

and I am happy to discuss special pricing for an artwork series. 

In addition, with requests recently for oil paintings and watercolors of residences, 

my interest in architectural portraits of homes has grown,

It is such a pleasure getting to know both finished and unfinished buildings. 

I love studying them closely to better portray their appearance and their spirit on canvas.
